Foxmarks, our choice to keep Firefox bookmarks synced across computers, is now available for Internet Explorer and Safari, giving somebody with multiple computers or browsers an agony-gratis way to keep it all together.
Foxmarks offers really the same print of background bookmark-syncing awesomeness for IE and Safari as it does for Firefox, with a few key exceptions:
No password syncing: A tough collapse, but not too hard to overcome by using Dropbox as a thwart-platform password syncer.
No syncing bookmarks to your own server: Probably not an agreement breaker for most users, but we chance it makes a viewing some day quickly.
IPhone sync only for Mac Safari: Actually, this isn't an aspect Foxmarks even offers for Firefox, so it's kind of bonus.
If you're still down to try out Foxmarks in its newest forms, regulate to the Foxmarks downloads page and grab your appropriate installer. I require a Mac scheme, so I'll be stepping through an Internet Explorer procedure below.
- Double-click the installer, accept all the standard "Do you want ..." and "Allow ..." prompts, and you'll be asked to also found a Foxmarks account or indicator in with the one you've got. After verification,
- The default action, if you purely hit "Synchronize," is for Foxmarks to merge any favorites you've got on your approach with something backed up in your Foxmarks cloud. That's beautiful for newcomers, but I commonly like to get ridding of all the pre-deceptive MSN, Windows Live, and analogous bookmarks, so let's hit "Change sync settings" and lever it up
- After that, Foxmarks gets untaken. Instead of installing an icon in Internet Explorer's foot category bar, Foxmarks plants itself in your system tray. You'll see it pop up a notification when it's done grabbing or placing bookmarks to/from the servers. Right-clicking the icon gives you reach to your Foxmarks settings, can open your web-based bookmarks browser, and close down the Foxmarks route. It seems to run about whether you've got IE up and operation, which rather recall insensitive, but also convenient to those who open and close their browser steadily.
- The Foxmarks options are parallel to what Firefox users have been used to: a fast-sync switch, choices on how and when Foxmarks synchronizes, and, best of all, the same kind of mainframe-by-mainframe selective bookmark syncing, or "profiles."
- And here's the superior options, where you can change your encryption anxiety, weight a server- or notebook-wiping sync, and walk off that Foxmarks tray icon. Turning off the icon still lets you at the Foxmarks options from IE's "Tools" menu:
